Our Story

A pub in the middle of nowhere, five miles from everywhere

The building

Three hundred years of welcome

For most of its life The Mole Inn was a plain village pub — flagstones, a fire and a handful of regulars. In 2003 it was carefully restored: the beams and stonework stayed, the kitchen was rebuilt from scratch, and the garden was replanted.

What emerged is a proper Oxfordshire country restaurant that never forgot it is also the village pub. You can eat three courses with a good bottle of Burgundy, or sit in the bar with a pint of local cask and a bowl of chips.

Local first

Meat, vegetables and cheese from Oxfordshire farms and small producers, ordered little and often.

Room for everyone

Romantic dinners, birthday tables of twenty, business lunches and weddings in the garden.

Dogs welcome

Water bowls in the bar and some of the best walks in the county right from the door.

The garden

Arguably the best in Oxfordshire

Lavender borders, shaded tables, strung lights and open countryside beyond. In summer we serve the full menu outside, and the garden becomes one of the loveliest places in the county to spend an afternoon.
